SHAPED LIGHT AND MATTER BEAMS AND THEIR INTERACTIONS
By:
Roei Remez
PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Ady Arie

Abstract
Light beams, passing through a tailored transparency, can be shaped into an arbitrary designed form. Although light beam shaping is a relatively known and investigated research field, it is still the subject of a vast study, with applications in improving optical microscopy, light trapping, turbulence compensation and more. The subject of beam shaping of matter beams, electrons for example, is relatively new. To some extent it follows similar equations, however, especially in the case of interaction of a shaped electron beam with matter and light, quantum considerations must be taken into account, and the correct use of semi-classical assumptions is crucial.
In this seminar, I'll present research on this issue that was conducted by me along with other members of the group in the past five years. The research includes superoscillations in non-linear optics and in matter waves, electron beam shaping for improving the resolution of electron microscopes, and the use of Smith Purcell radiation as a beam shaping method and as a tool that helps us understand the nature of the quantum wavefunction.
