Data Management in Pervasive and Context-Aware Systems
Abstract
The scope of data management in pervasive systems is to give users an instantaneous and complete access to any information at any time and anywhere, in highly dynamic environments where both data and source availability varies with a high frequency, expecially as to location and time.
However, the complexity of the envisaged WSN-based systems grew from a handful of homogeneous sensors to hundreds or thousands of devices differing as to their capabilities, technologies, architectures, and languages. Thus, like in other domains of computer systems design, we need models which abstract the structure and behavior of the WSN and of its components at different levels, in order to allow the designer to attack problems in a disciplined way.
In this seminar, I shall show how such systems can be abstracted using models typical of the Database design practice and shall introduce the PerLa language to deal with Pervasive applications in a SQL-like style.
