Droplet Statics and Dynamics on Superhydrophobic and Superhydrophilic Surfaces
Dr. Youhua Jiang
Assistant Professor
Department of Mechanical Engineering, Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Shantou, China.
Droplet motion on a textured surface is an intriguing topic because of its importance in many applications and its interdisciplinary nature that combines the knowledge of surface engineering, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, phase-change heat transfer, physical chemistry, etc. However, mechanisms of how surface structures affect the statics and dynamics of droplet motion are still not fully elaborated. In this talk, fog collection will be used to connect Dr. Jiang’s works on droplet statics (e.g., adhesion) on superhydrophobic surfaces and droplet dynamics (e.g., coalescence) on superhydrophilic wires. Lastly, a brief introduction of Dr. Jiang’s recent works on compound droplet (e.g., droplets ladened with solid particles, viscoelastic droplets, etc.) dynamics on complex surfaces (e.g., surfaces with micro-openings, flexibility, asymmetric curvatures, and structures, etc.) will be introduced.
Dr. Youhua Jiang, Assistant Professor
Department of Mechanical Engineering, Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Shantou, China.
Prof. Jiang received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology in 2014 and 2018, respectively, followed by the Postdoctoral Training in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University. He joined the Mechanical Engineering Department at Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) as the Assistant Professor beginning from Oct. 2020. His research interests include the effects of solid surfaces on phenomena relating to fluid dynamics, phase-change heat transfer, and physical chemistry, particularly the droplet statics and dynamics on superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic surfaces. Prof. Jiang has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed papers mainly at the leading journals in interfacial phenomena, including Physical Review Letters, Applied Physics Letter, Langmuir, Soft Matter, and Journal of Colloid and Interface Science. Prof. Jiang also served on the Editorial Board of Surface Innovations (JCR-Q2).
