Standard for laser Eyewear

.The standard defines the requirements for the eye protection while working with lasers and the method to mark the eye goggles

:The standard for lasers Eyewear in Israel is 4141, based on the European Norm EN
.EN-207 - standard for working with lasers

.EN-208 - standard for laser alignment

.The aim of the eyewear is to attenuate the light intensity by a defined filter

.(The level of attenuation is expressed numerically by Optical Density, OD (The higher the OD is, the higher the attenuation

.Since OD does not consider the exposure time the eyewear is being defined by the standard for the levels of protection called LB, ranged between LB1 to LB10 where LB10 is the highest protection level
.LB defines the attenuation required according to the laser type and its exposure time for a period of 5 seconds or at least 50 pulses

:The letters before the LB number refer to the temporal mode of the laser beam

Working Mode

Letter

Pulse Length

CW lasers or average Power Density

D

exposure time > 0.25s

Pulsed mode

I

1 µs - 0.25s

Pulsed mode

R

1ns - 1µs

Mode coupled laser

M

pulse lengths < 1ns

.Note: Protective eyewear for repetitively pulsed lasers must satisfy the D rating, CW, as well as one of I, R or M rating appropriate to its pulse length
