Prof. Eran Socher (IEEE S’96–M’03 SM'12) received the B.A. degree in physics (summa cum laude) and B.Sc. (summa cum laude), M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering, all from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, where he worked on CMOS compatible MEMS sensors and actuators and their readout electronics, especially for uncooled thermal imaging. From 2003 to 2006, he was a research engineer in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and an adjunct lecturer at the Technion and Bar-Ilan University. From 2006 to 2008, he was a visiting researcher at the High Speed Electronics Laboratory and a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), CA, USA.
Since October 2008, he is a faculty member (now Full Professor) at the School of Electrical Engineering of Tel Aviv University (TAU) and heads the High Frequency Integrated Circuits and VLSI Labs. He co-authored 50 journal papers and over 90 conference papers, including JSSC, T-MTT, MWCL, RFIC, IMS, SiRF and EuMIC. His current research interests are mostly in mm-wave CMOS circuit design for >20Gbps communications and THz sensing and imaging and interfaces to the chip at these frequencies (on-chip antennas, transitions to waveguide). He holds 8 patents and consults to industry on RFIC design and characterization.
In 2015-2017 he was also a Visiting Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Toronto.
Prof. Socher is the recipient of several teaching and research awards, including the 2011 and 2015 TAU Rector’s Prize for Excellent Teaching.
