Optical waveguides in porous silicon

PHD student under the supervision of Prof. Shlomo Ruschin
Abstract
Planar optical elements have essential application in optical and opto-electronic systems, such as various optical communication devices, as single elements and as parts of optical integrated circuits. Creation of optical waveguides by means of patterned pore filling provides a novel method of fabrication of planar optical elements, which is potentially less complicated than the existing manufacturing methods.
In this seminar I shall present results of the experimental research on optical properties of porous silicon, how they can be modified in a controlled manner and how local modification of refraction index of porous silicon can be ustilised to fabricate low-loss optical waveguides.
