Abstract:
We experimentally demonstrate a new type of micro-device that supports resonantly enhanced light-plasma interactions. The shape of our micro-cavity is a bottle, and its wall thickness is shorter than an optical wavelength. As such, light that circumferentially resonates along the bottle perimeter is evanescently penetrating into the inner part of the bottle, where light interacts with plasma.
Bringing active media such as plasma to microresonators might permit additional knobs for electro-optically controlling and manipulating light propagation with currents, electric, and magnetic fields.
