Enable breakthroughs in Parkinson’s disease through wearables and Big Data analytics technologies

Abstract

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a neurological motor disorder affecting 6 million people around the world. With no cure, treatment today focuses mainly on improving the patients' quality-of-life. Doctors and researchers have little objective insights on their Parkinson’s patients’ symptoms progression, and heavily rely on subjective evaluation and feedback from the patient.

Intel Corporation is running a joint multi-year program with the Michael J. Fox foundation for Parkinson’s research, to promote research on PD, as well as patients’ daily care. As part of this program, sensory data from wearable devices is collected through a massive health-IoT platform that was developed by Intel. The sensorial data is then analyzed with Machine Learning and Digital Signal Processing algorithms, and objective Parkinsonian measures are extracted.

In this talk we will introduce the promise on the way for enabling breakthroughs in PD through the usage of wearable devices and big data analytics.
