~The Ribosome Flow Model on a Ring: Theory and Applications Michael Margaliot

Abstract: The ribosome flow model on a ring (RFMR) is a mathematical model for the flow of particles satisfying simple exclusion along a circular chain of sites. It has been used to model and analyze the flow of ribosomes along the mRNA with ribosome recycling. We analyze the RFMR using tools from systems and control theory and describe some biological implications.
The talk is self-contained.

Bio-Sketch
Prof. Michael Margaliot received the BSc (cum laude) and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology-in 1992 and 1995, respectively, and the PhD degree (summa cum laude) from Tel Aviv University in 1999. He was a post-doctoral fellow in the Dept. of Theoretical Mathematics at the Weizmann Institute of Science. In 2000, he joined the Dept. of Electrical Engineering-Systems, Tel Aviv University, where he is currently a Professor and Chair. Dr. Margaliot's research interests include the stability analysis of differential inclusions and switched systems, optimal control theory, fuzzy control, computation with words, Boolean control networks, and systems biology. He is co-author of New Approaches to Fuzzy Modeling and Control: Design and Analysis, World Scientific, 2000 and of Knowledge-Based Neurocomputing: A Fuzzy Logic Approach, Springer, 2009. He currently serves as Associate Editor for the journal IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control. His current work is supported by research grants from the Israel Science Foundation, the Israeli Ministry of Science and Technology, and the United States-Israel Binational Science Foundation. ,
