Electromagnetic Scattering from Time Dependent Bodies

Abstract
Electromagnetic scattering was definitively solved over a century ago for static bodies, yet the world insists to remain dynamic. The Doppler Effect is perhaps one of the few well studies dynamic scattering effects, yet there exist more elaborate degrees of motional freedom, such as rotation and vibration, giving rise to the so called micro-Doppler effect that allows remote sensing and charechterization of targets of interest (for example consider the rotating blades of a helicopter observed by an investingating radar system). Yet there are even more elaborate effects rarely discussed in academic research. In this seminar we shall dive deeper into different time-dependent scattering phenomena, introducing the effects of electromagnetis memory to the equation, as well as considering the effects caused by time varying the material properties of the scattering bodies. We shall discuss particular applications towards radar, lidar and sonar, discovering how the emergent field of time-dependent metamaterial/metasurface covers can be used for radar deception of range, Doppler and direction of arrival informatio, cloaking targets of interest and creating nonexitant ghosts for the interrogating systems.
